Dr. Scott Purcell

Dr. Scott Purcell is the Laboratory Director for Virginia Fertility & IVF As Laboratory Director Dr. Purcell oversees the daily quality control and function of the Virginia Fertility & IVF Embryology, Andrology, and Endocrinology laboratories.  He is board-certified as a High Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD) and as a Technical Supervisor (TS) in both Embryology and Andrology by the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB).  Prior to joining Virginia Fertility & IVF, Dr. Purcell spent three and half years at Dallas-Ft. Worth Fertility Associates, as part of the Embryology team at the largest fertility clinic in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

Dr. Purcell grew up near Richmond, VA and received both his B.S. and M.S. at Virginia Tech.  He received his Ph.D. from the Biomedical Sciences Department at Colorado State University then completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Ob/Gyn Department at Washington University in St. Louis.   As a graduate student and fellow, Dr. Purcell published numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals on mammalian reproductive biology.  Dr. Purcell is an active member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the College of Reproductive Biology of the ABB. He is married with two children and enjoys spending time outside with his family as well as fishing, reading, and traveling.
