08 Sep PCOS Awareness Month
Here at the Virginia Fertility & IVF, we’re honoring the first week of PCOS Awareness Month.
The official aim of this federally designated event, hosted by the National Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Association, is to, “…help improve the lives of those affected by PCOS and to help them to overcome their symptoms as well as prevent and reduce their risks for life-threatening related conditions.”
This is a time when those of us in the fertility treatment world, along with willing patients, work especially hard to spread the word about polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and how important accurate diagnosis and treatment are for protecting a woman’s fertility future.
Exciting News: It’s Easy to Attend This Year’s PCOS Symposiums
We know it’s not that fun to shelter in place, in the midst of a pandemic, while trying to conceive TTC. But here is some exciting news for you…
The National Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Association’s 2020 PCOS Awareness Symposiums are all taking place online – and you’re invited!
Attending these scheduled symposiums introduces you, and provides access to, some of the nation’s leading PCOS researchers and experts. The symposiums take place on three separate Saturdays throughout this month:
- Day 1 – Sat, Sep 12th
Fertility, Maternal Health, and Family Building - Day 2 – Sat, Sep 19th
Lifestyle Management of PCOS - Day 3 – Sat, Sep 26th
PCOS Related Disorders, Adolescent Health, Support and Advocacy

Walk for PCOS Awareness
The PCOS Challenge 5K runs and walks have become PCOS Awareness Month traditions for many of our patients and their family and friends who come out to support them.
Speaking of support, these events also serve as a powerful way to connect and engage with your community PCOS/infertility support system. If you don’t feel like participating in the run/walk, you are welcome to get involved by volunteering.
Use Social Media to Spread the Word
It is super easy to spread the word and important information about PCOS via social media channels. Click Here to connect with the PCOS Awareness Month Toolkit. In addition to hashtag suggestions (#PCOS) and links to informative infographics such as the one below, there are all kinds of suggestions for how you can post, share, and advertise important information about PCOS, its symptoms and side effects, and healthy management options.
You never know when the information you share helps another woman out there make a connection between her symptoms and the possibility that she has PCOS. As you’re aware, earlier lifestyle changes and treatment go a long way towards supporting PCOS patients’ health.
Donate to the PCOS Challenge
If you have the means to donate to the PCOS Challenge, that’s fantastic. However, we completely understand that pursuing infertility diagnosis and treatments can be costly. In that case, you can use this designated month as a launchpad for asking others to donate to the cause.
Via email or social media posts, you can provide short stories about your experience and/or provide links for interested parties to donate to the PCOS Challenge, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so charitable contributions are tax-deductible.
There are many ways to participate and connect with others during PCOS Awareness Month, and we encourage you to do so.
