Healthy Mocktails to Keep You Cool This Summer!

Healthy lifestyle choices are essential for individuals and couples trying to conceive (TTC). In addition to preparing your body for pregnancy by focusing on a nutritious diet, exercise, and weight management, we also recommend you give up alcohol.

Since summer is the season for fun, creative, and colorful cocktails (garnished with those adorable umbrellas), we don’t want our patients to feel left out. Fortunately, there are plenty of Mocktail recipes that are so delicious that you won’t even miss your favorite concoctions.

7 Mocktails to Knock Your Summer Socks Off

These seven mocktail recipes are not only delicious, but they’re also good for you! So much so that many of our patients make them staple drinks at parties and get-togethers. Of course, you’re not the only one who can’t drink, so anyone who chooses sobriety or plans to be the designated driver will appreciate the thoughtful, artisan-quality alternatives you offer.

1. Blood Orange and Ginger Soda

This Blood Orange and Ginger Soda recipe uses fresh ingredients, including a sprig of lime, providing a sweet and tangy drink with a spicy zing. That fresh ginger should also appeal to you because any early pregnancy morning sickness is proven to be relieved by ginger’s tummy-taming properties.

2. Watermelon Lime Spritzer

Ever wonder what to do with the rest of a huge watermelon? Our recommendation: use the rest to whip up a batch of a Watermelon Lime Spritzer. It’s refreshing and tangy. Watermelon has higher levels of lycopene (a powerful antioxidant) than any other fruit or veggie. Also, lycopene reduces your risk of sunburn, making it a perfect summertime treat. We recommend wearing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen when spending extended periods in the sunshine.

3. The Spanish Dancer

We’re huge fans of this unique mocktail combo that is definitely worth trying. The Spanish Dancer combines Cara-Cara orange juice (always a favorite!), with sherry vinegar and saffron. The saffron adds an addictive lingering finish that will keep you coming back for more. This exotic spice originates from the Eastern hemisphere and has a wide range of health benefits. One of them is reduced PMS symptoms, which can support your fertility medication cycles.

4. The Celery Salty Dog

The traditional Salty Dog combines vodka, grapefruit juice, and a salt-rimmed glass to refreshing perfection. For the Celery Salty Dog, the combination of a celery simple syrup and a dash of bitters creates a similar flavor profile that you are bound to fall in love with, especially if you prefer more savory than sweet. For additional health benefits, we recommend using fresh-squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice instead of the “from concentrate” version. That will also cut down on the overall carbs.

5. Margarita Mocktail

If you love a classic margarita, make a pitcher of these Margarita Mocktails. It combines fresh-squeezed lime and orange juice (although bottled suffices in a pinch) and agave sweetener and club soda. While we are fans of a salted rim, we recommend the recipe author’s preference – using Tajín seasoning with salt to make a spicier chili-lime salted rim, kicking it up a notch and compensating for the loss of the tequila kick.

6. Cucumber & Mint “Fauxito”

The act of adding a few slices of cucumber and sprig of mint into a glass of water is the difference between boring and refreshing – not surprising since cucumber is known for its hydrating properties. Take that concept to another level with a Cucumber & Mint Fauxito. It only takes about five minutes to whip up a batch, which is the perfect thing to sip on after your prenatal yoga or water exercise class.

7. Hibiscus Iced Tea Sparkler

Did you know that hibiscus is often used in holistic medicine as a natural blood pressure regulator? It’s also full of vitamin C, fights inflammation, and supports weight management. Its flowery but tart flavor profile makes it a delicious ingredient in this Hibiscus Iced Tea Sparkler. Hibiscus’s gorgeous pinky-red color makes it an attractive addition to any party table. We like making the base and keeping it in a quart jar, then we simply add it to a glass of ice and top it with sparkling water or club soda.

Don’t Let Infertility Get You Down This Summer

If you’re sipping non-alcoholic drinks to no avail and aren’t getting pregnant no matter what you do, it may be time to schedule a consultation with Virginia IVF. Let’s make this the season you get to the heart of your infertility issues so we can create a personalized treatment plan.
